I have been working on a site for a friend, and I must say that HostPapa has absolutely no clue what they are talking about. When I was in the middle of uploading a site the server went down (the server hostname is hp16) so I jumped on there live chat to see what the problem was. It was not answered the first six tries, and by the seventh try HTTPD service had finally come up again (though not cPanel)

I got connected to "Nelson" who starts the chat like this
You are now chatting with Nelson (Support)

Nelson: nope
Nelson: ?\
Jacob *******: hello?

I tell him that the server is down, that cPanel is down and he says not it is not. I say yes it is, and provide proof via HyperSping.
He says HyperSping is unreliable -- WHAT????????
All in all, HORRIBLE -- they don't know what they are talking about!

I currently host 5 websites with hostpapa, and one of them came up for renewal, I asked hostpapa if they provided price-matching because there was a good deal with justhost.com (through which I now host 12 websites). Hostpapa replied that they do not price-match, so I asked to initiate a transfer. After 9 days and numerous emails back and forth regarding their requirements to transfer, plus paying a domain transfer fee... they end up incorrectly changing the dns and allowing my domain to expire. Justhost waits patiently for hostpapa to figure out their mess, my domain is in limbo (they probably want more money now) and my clients site is not accessible.

I will not recommend Hostpapa to any new clients and will transfer my other 5 clients with them to other hosting providers.

This is the biggest rip off online! they invest more money in advertisement than the money they should invest in getting their servers running.
Worst than that they pay to get positioned on reviews.

Firstly- I wanted to vote 0 out of 10 but I can't so my review is 1-10

Don't bother, no RUN from Host Papa! They are the worst web hosting company on the planet. Our site was down so may times that our customers stated to think we had gone bankrupt!

We are in the process of switching to Host Gator and waiting to transfer over completely. In the meantime Host Papa has kindly posted on our webpage that our account has been suspended and we need to contact them immediately for payment!!! LOL, we don't owe them a penny, we just canceled with them!!

To avoid embarrassment and heart ache, just go with Host Gator, the reviews were much better and we should have gone with our instincts, but we wanted to support locally and a so called green company.

This is the second time this week their servers were down and if you try to contact support team, it takes too long to connect... and even if you connect they are no help at all

As far as pricing is concerned, one can get more reliable hosting company within the same package.

My experience with hostpapa was terrible. They don't host asp pages so I was forced to change host providers. But there is no way to point your DNS online. Plus there is no one on their '24-hr' support line. After many calls and emails, they finally pointed my DNS but would only agree to do so if I paid an extra $26 for my domain name (which was supposedly included in the hosting package WHICH THEY REFUSED TO REFUND ME FOR). Basically, they held my domain name hostage (which I needed immediately), so I'm paying $122 for my domain name for the year. Interesting approach to customer service.

HORRIBLE. DO NOT use Host Papa. My site and email were down too many times to count. They have a ton of issues and it has only gotten worse.
Now I have canceled and they will not respond to my requests for a EPP key - so my site is now in limbo and I cannot transfer my domain. When you visit my site it says "your site has been suspended".
You cannot talk to a person in billing, it can only be approached by email and they apparently take their sweet time responding to that. My request went in 6 days ago and my site has been totally inaccessible for the last 3 days.
I was totally expecting this from them, but I'm still furious.

What a selection of idiots. Only a country with such liberal views could allow a shower of incompetents to operate from there. My sites are consistantly down (6 times in the last 2 weeks) and even planned maintainance is scheduled wrongly and the given dates are not accurate. I would be interested to hear from Canadians who actually runs Hostpapa.

I really think they should start all over agaim. I suppose if their servers were as efficient as their program for spotting criticism of their sites online then we may not have the problems they do.

I suggest they all stand in a line, bend over and kick each other up the arse.

Get it right or your customer base will be as popular as a muslim in the White House!

Host Papa is my new host since they support Green Hosting :) I have been with them for almost four months. I host my joomla and mambo website with Host Papa and my daughter has her personal blog with Host Papa as well.

Reliability wise they have not yet been down so cross your fingers! Tjeir customer support is awesome since they helped the both of us get the scripts installed and pointed correctly. They do have all the features we need and it's quite simple to use.

Host Papa pricing is the same as most of the other prices for hosting so it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Host Papa = Domain Ransomers23 Mar 09, 12:191 out of 10
I would seriously think twice about using Host Papa for any serious web hosting. Their server downtime is horrendus and even when its up the server load is totally maxed out. Your sites will load up very slowly. Pay a bit extra per month and get a VPS.

Also BE AWARE of their FREE FOR LIFE domain offer - i am trying to move away from them and am being ransomed for my domain name. They are asking for me to pay for every registration fee since the domain was registered. So if you sign up to host papa make sure your "Free" domain is something worthless.

Also they should change their marketing of "FREE FOR LIFE" domain offer to "FREE AS LONG AS YOUR WITH US BUT IF YOU WANT TO TRANSFER IT THEN WE WILL UNFAIRLY RANSOM YOU FOR IT" but then that wouldnt be as catchy would it ;-)

Wow, I have never seen incompetence like this, even when I was in camp with special needs kids... their customer service doesn't no anything about hosting - you are better of asking someone random on the street for help. They go down more than a vegas hooker and your business will be affected by missing, bouncing and delayed emails - probably weekly if not DAILY. They brag about being this "GREEN" company too where they respect energy consumption. I guess that's why there is so much downtime LOL to save f* energy! HOST PAPA YOU ARE THE WORST HOSTING COMPANY WE HAVE EVER HAD. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND GO WITH A SERVER ON SOME RANDOM BOAT OFF MADAGASCAR BEFORE TRYING THE BURNTTOAST OF HOST!

I've just built 4 websites for small businesses, On Monday they were down for 4 HOURS and they've been down for a hour this evening...and this is just when I'm trying to work on them...so who knows how often they're down when I'm not looking. Not the 99% uptime they promise...

This company apparently attempts to cover up bad reviews, however by way of my review of them, here is the cancellation Email I sent them, you should get the message from this..

RE: www.nicksimpsonx.com

Dear Hostpapa,

I really loved the idea of your brand, the idea to let Papa take care of everything, the Green energy, the 99% uptime you promised, the unlimited storage space, unlimited databases. I was so impressed with all these marvellous things that you offered me that I was happy to hand over my money and also to trust you with my precious websites which had taken several years to build up.

Sure, they were not commercial websites, they were merely communities that were free of charge for everyone where new programmers could get a helping hand, I even told the members of the sites how great, helpful, fast and reliable our spiffy new green hosting was and how the lag we had experienced before on our old server was a thing of the past.

Everyone was so grateful towards you, nobody even seemed to mind when SQL crashed so often on your site, I did point this out to you of course and you told me that it was my scripts that were maxing out 15 simultanious connections, I wondered how difficult that must be to do and I estimated that I'd probably need several hundred people browsing my forums at once to cause the problem but Papa knows best of course and who knows, maybe my complete memberlist logged on to the site whenever I turned my back on it.

Even recently after all the downtime some of my members told me to give you a last chance and I did. That was before someone on the same server as me allegedly ran a script which went haywire and completely wiped out my websites.

I would like to congratulate you on the timely manner that you answered my politely worded support tickets, it was perfectly reasonable of you to make me wait 3 days for a response to such trifling requests as "my site is offline and I can't access anything, cpanel is showing no files", why would I be concerned anyway, my communities only took years to establish, it speaks volumes of your service that the directory structure was wiped out and I could not even put up a place holder page to reassure my visitors.. In fact, several weeks later the directory structure is still wiped out.

Your online chat needs a mention too, I've been on this planet for 37 years and I have never met such an inept bunch of technicians and I just wonder if there is actually a question that they know the right answer to. They fobbed me off at every opportunity, as did the feckless idiot that I spoke to on the phone.

You should be commended that at no point has anyone in your organisation offered an apology for the dataloss, nobody has offered me any help.

So, I am left to sum things up, I know that a refund is out of the question, I have google and I've read how you treat your customers so I will tell you what you have already been told no doubt a few thousand times by your customers.

Your service is terrible, your tech support people are stupid and do not care, you couldn't care less about your customers data, your servers are oversold, slow and uptime I would say is less than 90% (and you cant argue with this point because it is my true experience).

Thankfully I have taken my business elsewhere now so I invite you to take your environmentally friendly hosting, stick it on the end of a (green) pole and shove it so far up your ******* that you can clean your teeth with it.

You can take this as a request to cancel my plan (www.nicksimpsonx.com) and take this as an assurance that myself and at least some of the 1200 members of my two communities have a great opinion of your utterly unprofessional rabble and will be writing appropriate reviews to warn other unsuspectiong people away from you.

Yours Sincerely,

Nick Simpson

Thought I'd add this review as my experience and on behalf of the DBF and RR communities as a whole. This hosting is AWFUL! The uptime was always erratic at best, but I'd say well above 95%, up until their major server crash towards the end of August. Someone else on the server ran a rogue script that wiped out everyone on the same server, including the two communities above. Of course, we were all unaware of this, as for the best part of a week the sites were returning 404's and hostpapa had no official news on their website.

It was only after the sites were transfered to a new host that any of us were able to find out what had happened, and learnt that HALF our files from the last SIX MONTHS had disappeared into the ether. Half of them! So much for 'automated backup'. Turns out that they still haven't fixed the problem almost a month later, and aren't offering any kind of compensation for the downtime.

As our admin so politely put it, they can take their environmentally friendly hosting and shove it.

I would not recommend this company to host your site. Their customer service is lacking. Our site has been down several times and the majority of time when you call you will get the message that they are busy so leave a message. This would be fine if they would actually call you back. I was told one time that our site would be back up in 2 hours. Fifteen hours later we were still down and no one had responded to my emails or phone calls. We have an e-commerce store and this cost us sales.

Then you actually look at the personal reviews and they tell you how it is.

These review sites are nothing more than payed for advertising sites of which hostpapa must have a spent a small fortune on as they are on most of them with high ranks.

Horrible! It takes several minutes for the useless file manager to open (not my connection or computer), "tech support" i.e. some wise ass kid, hung up on me four times.. SInce it was sunday it seemed like he was some guy laying on his couch watching tv with a headset on as he knew f all about site hosting. Half of the scripts go into the wrong folders for and "unknown reason" that MUST be a "design issue" because "it couldn't be us, must be something you are doing". Utter crap. At first, they were amazing - cpanel administration, no downtime, and all at a great cost. Then the interruptions in service began occurring as soon as we switched our 20+ computers to IMAP email... We have had absolutely nothing but trouble since, and will be changing providers. We have had, in one month, five hours of downtime. I do NOT recommend them if you are reliant upon IMAP email support.

I've been using HostPapa for a couple of years, and I've been very happy with them.

Their customer service is top-notch. For those complaining it, especially the one who asked "How do we move cPanel accounts", if you would stop asking stupid questions like that, perhaps they would have more time to answer questions that make sense. Everybody knows that the cPanel account belongs to the host and you can't "move" it.

Also, they have an amazing knowledgebase and video tutorials with sound. I almost ALWAYS find my answer by consulting them before contacting customer support. Those tools are created for your benefit. Use them!

Also, these budget hosts usually get inundated with newbie questions such as "how do I start creating my site?". This really hurts the service for everyone else. If you don't have the basic knowledge of site creation and hosting, don't sign up. Even though it's hosting at a budget price, it doesn't make it less complicated to get up and running with your own site.

HORRIBLE....please BEWARE. I consider myself to be very open minded when openly discussing or communicating out a specific message. Although after doing my research and being lured by the warm and fuzzy exterior persona that Host Papa displays I have had nothing but issues and beyond horrible customer service. The call center and online support reps were not knowledgable of their products or services, they were not professsional in their communications and often I was left to wait, indefinitely "while we check on this for you". As I type this, I have been on the online support (chat window) for 52 minutes and counting with no response. This lack of professionalism is unacceptable. I was hoping to continue to do business with a company that has a solid business model but when it comes down to it they have failed to deliver on every customer facing promise.

We had an account with them and wanted to move to another company. They delayed it by weeks what should have taken hours because they managed the domain name and would not change the Name Servers until we jumped through all their hoops. Even though we had a year left on our hosting contract which they would not refund, they still charged us an additional $26 to leave. On top of that, they kept sending us emails with only partial information such as 1. Who is making this request, then another email... 2. Are you sure you want to leave, 3. Here are your Options for (one of them being to not leave), 4. If you want to leave there is a charge of $26 and we need more contact information from the person who owns the account to verify accurate cancellation. WOW what bunch of crap. The domain name and original email address is all most companies want but not these guys.

STAY AWAY from them because once they get you you can NEVER GET AWAY FROM THEM.

I called HostPapa's Info line to inquire about some details before I purchase a plan. I was automatically put on hold and waited over ten minutes, with a deafening silence interrupted every couple of minutes with a promotion message. I figured that if I had to wait that long before I even become a customer - that is when I expect them to lure me with their efficiency and good service - what would be the case once I paid my dues and they had me sort of in the bag. They must be either severely short of support personnel, or do not think it is that important to communicate with potential customers. At any rate, I hanged up and will be looking elsewhere.

Hostpapa.com is the ultimate in bad webhosting , I cannot even list everything that is wrong with hostpapa the list would be too long.

Be warned , if you choose them don't bother to complain to them, they border on the line of illegal internet activity by tampering with your website when you complain too much, When you complain they claim its hackers.. If this is so they are totally vulnerable and open to hacking.. Nothing more than liars, and crooks running this clown act.

The only thing good at hostpapa was the price... so I thought...

An excellent company. I have been with Hostpapa for a year now. The staff is very helpful. They answered all my questions thoroughly and made sure I was satisfied. Their pricing is very nice. They offer more features and the most control over your site that I have seen with any other host.

Finally the uptimes have been perfect. Over the year my site has been down twice total and both times it was back up in a matter of minutes, not hours or days. The staff was quick to acknowledge an outage, give an approx time to being back up and met their goal.

I am very very impressed and will never switch hosts as long as these guys are around.

Downtime is rubbish. HostPapa staff are getting all angry because I am initiated too many live chat requests (80% go to a "Leave a message"). They are really terrible on customer support and have changed a lot over the past year from good to bad to awful. If you have a website for a few people every fay thats great but if you have 10 websites with 50 uniques per day, not good especially as I need to edit the website and I cant now. SHAME ON YOU HOSTPAPA - STOP CRAMMING EVERYONE ON ONE SERVER. I asked them once and they say they have 600 people per server...way to much. I will moving as soon as possible.

Consistent Server DOWN-TIME. My site has been down FOUR times now. TWICE in a three week period. I'm losing potential clients! Watch out for their 100% satisfaction guarentee which is only good for the first 30 days!

I contact tech support and they are "working on the problem" and could not give me a time frame on when it will be fixed. The support tech basically said -"We can't be responsible for a customer abusing the server". This causes me concern...do they not have security/firewalls to protect other users? You are telling me that ONE person can cause your entire system to crash and in turn bring down all your clients on that server?

This is the fourth time I've had a problem with the servers being DOWN. Host Papa- it's time to troubleshoot and find a way to prevent further technical issues!

I would not recommend Host Papa. Their approach to being green hosting company is great- but actual customer service and uptime is POOR.

I signed up to this provider because of all the good reviews about their tech support. I also realised after doing so that I'd made the single biggest mistake this week.... They are hopeless at answering real technical questions..

I asked them , "how do i move my cpanel accounts from my old provider to this account". To which they replied with an answer that included changing my ISP TAGS, now the ISP TAGS are only changed if you are transferring domain control to another provider.. I didn't ask that, I asked "how do I move my cpanel accounts...", you heard it already!

They then go and suggest that I use the restore option in their cpanel interface. I suggest that this wont work for move cpanel accounts from provider to another, but they insisted. Their advice cost me my primary domain, it over-writ everything and my primary site was ruined! The only thing you can do after this is to rebuild the account!

In short, this has to be the worst hosting experience I've ever encountered. They are hell bent on ISP TAGS! Getting you to move your domain name to their registrar.. Stay clear if you don't know anything about hosting, as they'll have you move your house if you're aren't sharp enough!
